Diazepam is a benzodiazepine class of drug with anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, sedative, muscle relaxant, and amnestic properties. It acts by enhancing the activity of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. Benzodiazepines have a minimal role in insomnia and it is used for the short-term treatment of insomnia associated with anxiety.

Mechanism of Action of Drug

The exact sites and mode of action of the benzodiazepines have not been clear, but the drugs acted by mediated through the inhibitory neurotransmitter γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
